MetaTrader 5: What Keeps Running and What Closes With the Window — Lesotho
Two kinds of load run inside the same program: a standing one that continues for as long as it is open, and a temporary one that exists only while a particular window does.
Open Exness Account →Most of what a terminal is doing at any moment can be switched off without consequence, and a small part of it cannot. The standing part is the subscription to the symbols on screen and the redraw of every open chart with every indicator on it; the temporary part is everything opened to be read once. Nothing that is holding a position lives in either — that sits on the broker side and survives whatever you close.
Measured order execution — Standard
How orders actually filled when real market orders were placed on Exness’s MT5 feed — fill time, slippage and rejects by order size:
| Instrument | Order size | Avg fill | Avg slippage | Fails |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EURUSDm | 0.01 lot | 151 ms | -0.333 pts | 0 |
| EURUSDm | 0.1 lot | 151 ms | -0.333 pts | 0 |
| EURUSDm | 1.0 lot | 146 ms | -0.333 pts | 0 |
| GBPUSDm | 0.01 lot | 141 ms | 0.667 pts | 0 |
| GBPUSDm | 0.1 lot | 130 ms | 0.0 pts | 0 |
| GBPUSDm | 1.0 lot | 135 ms | 0.333 pts | 0 |
| XAUUSDm | 0.01 lot | 141 ms | 0.0 pts | 0 |

MetaTrader 5 (MT5) at Exness
- Standing load: the subscription to the symbols currently being shown, which keeps updating whether or not you are looking
- Standing load: every open chart, redrawn as new quotes arrive, counted per chart rather than per account
- Standing load: each indicator on each of those charts, recalculated on every new bar
- Temporary load: the specification window, the history tab and any list you have opened to read something once
- Temporary load: bars fetched for a symbol the first time it is opened, after which they sit on disk instead
- Closing a chart stops its share of the standing load immediately and takes nothing else with it
- Positions and pending orders are held on the broker side, so they are unaffected by which windows are open
- A saved template puts an arrangement back exactly as it was, which makes closing windows a cheap decision
- The program can be reduced to one chart and still be doing everything that matters to an open position

Open Exness Account →What continues while the window is open
A chart on screen is not a picture, it is a subscription. For as long as it is open the symbol keeps arriving and the chart keeps being redrawn, and this continues at the same cost whether the window is in front of you or buried behind six others.
Indicators sit on top of that and are counted the same way. Each one is a calculation attached to a particular chart, repeated as each new bar forms, so the load is the number of charts multiplied by what is drawn on them rather than the number of symbols you follow.
What exists only while you are looking at it
Specification windows, history tabs, lists of symbols and anything else opened to check a detail are read once and cost nothing after they are closed. They feel heavy while they are open on a slow machine, which misleads people into leaving them open in case they are needed again.
The one exception worth knowing is bars fetched on the first opening of a symbol: that work happens once, and afterwards the bars are on disk rather than being requested again. Closing the window does not throw them away.
What closing things does not touch
An open position is not held by the chart it was opened from. Closing that chart, closing every chart, or closing the program entirely leaves the position exactly where it was, because it is recorded on the broker side rather than on the machine.
The same is true of pending orders and of the levels attached to a position. This is what makes trimming a workspace a safe habit rather than a risky one: the thing being reduced is the drawing, not the exposure.
Reducing the standing load without losing anything
- Save the arrangement as a template, so the full workspace is one click away again.
- Close the charts that are open out of habit rather than because something is being watched on them.
- Take indicators off the charts kept purely for reference.
- Close the specification and history windows once the figure you opened them for has been read.
- Leave the position alone — it is held on the broker side and none of the above touches it.
Each of these is reversible in seconds, which is the point: the arrangement is disposable and the position is not.
